More Details About the March

Last-Minute Updates On Tomorrow's March

With the President taking steps toward his wrong-headed plan to escalate the war by moving additional troops to Iraq, NOW activists are even more determined to head to Washington, D.C., this Saturday, Jan. 27. NOW will join with other anti-war activists in the largest mobilization since before the war began nearly four years ago. Details are confirmed, plans are made, and people are on their way to Washington to demand an end to the war and the safe return of our troops.

We hope you're planning to join us! Here are the details on the anti-war mobilization as we know them (please note, some of these details have recently changed):

Saturday, January 27

  • NOW activists will gather with other women's groups at 7th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW at 10:00 a.m. (Yellow/Green Line Archives/Navy Memorial Metro Stop). Join NOW, CodePink, Feminist Majority, Women's Action for New Directions, Feminist Peace Network and Women's Alliance for Theology, Ethics and Ritual, as we start the day with a powerful rally of women's voices for peace. Then we'll march together to join the main rally on the Mall.
  • We will march to the Capitol Mall near 4th St. NW for the rally
  • Rally at 11:00 a.m., NOW President Kim Gandy will be speaking from the main stage (Blue/Orange Line Smithsonian Metro Stop)
  • March steps-off at 1:00 p.m. from the Capitol Mall

Sunday, January 28

A series of workshops begins at 9:00 a.m. and runs until the afternoon. Some of the sessions will include training for Monday's lobby day. Visit www.unitedforpeace.org for a complete schedule.

NOW leaders will be conducting the following workshop from 10:30 a.m. - 11:55 a.m.

Congress: Listen to the Women! In this session, we will focus on how we hold Congress accountable, what are the strategies to influence their vote to end this war, advocate for binding resolutions that could have a very real impact, timetable for withdrawal, and funding issues. Not one single individual in Congress can make this happen; we, the people, need to pressure them to end this and end it NOW. Discussion about investigations on the treatment of women in the military.

Location:
Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
4301 East West Highway
(Red Line Bethesda Metro Stop)
Exit station using the main exit, walk 1/2 block north on Wisconsin Ave., turn right on East West Highway, the school is on your left in about 2 blocks. The main entrance is in the back of the school.

Monday, January 29

Lobby visits are being planned by coordinators in each state. If you are coming to lobby and can't attend the Sunday training, come to NOW's office at 9:00 a.m. for details and information. Location: 1100 H St. NW (Red/Orange/Blue Lines Metro Center Stop).
