Take a moment today, October 18, to honor yourself and love your body, just as it is.
Carry that spirit with you throughout the year, as you love your body every day!
Today marks the ninth annual Love Your Body Day, a day of action in our year-long Love Your Body Campaign. In response to unhealthy and exploitive images of women in the media, NOW Foundation established the Love Your Body Campaign to promote positive, healthy images of women and girls, protest harmful and offensive advertisements, and raise awareness about women's health issues.
Here are some suggestions for actions you can take this month, or any time!
- Organize a picket or start a petition drive to tell advertisers that their ads are offensive to women and create unhealthy expectations. Check out the "bad ads" and the good ads as well!
- Create T-shirts with messages that uplift body-esteem like: "My Sum Is Greater Than My Parts," "I am Not my Hair," "Real Women have Curves," and of course "Love Your Body."
- Host a forum on women's health issues. Get the facts!
- Hold a LYBD fashion show! Whether you're styling in cultural dress, after-five attire, or weekend garb, embrace women's lovely shapes and shades.
- Local eateries not meeting your standards? Stuff the suggestion box with suggestions for better food choices.
- Organize a rally to create awareness of body image issues. Have a festival?with good music, good food, free services and information!
- Send a Love Your Body e-card.
