Fight Looms on Budget Cuts, Tax Breaks - Many Programs Slashed

House Passes Budget Cuts -- Contact Your Representative Today

Thanks to the efforts of our activists over the past weeks, the middle of the night vote on the budget reconciliation bill, H.R. 4241, was VERY CLOSE. Sadly we lost by two votes, and the $50 billion cuts passed.

Even though 14 brave moderate Republicans stood firm and voted against these cruel cuts, the House leadership was able to persuade over a dozen moderates to side with the Bush administration over the interests of their hard working, struggling, and vulnerable constituents. The House and Senate versions of both the budget cuts and tax giveaways will have to go to conference committee, so uncertainty lies ahead. But it is important for us to recognize and thank these stalwarts.

Action Needed:

Please use our automated system to send an email to your representative today. The letter will express your thanks if your Congressmember voted against these devastating budget cuts, and your disappointment if they voted for the cuts. You can also personalize the message with your own thoughts. It's important to let your representatives know that you are watching their votes carefully, and that we will remember when they come up for re-election.
