Tell your Senators to Oppose the Nomination of William Pryor

Urge both of your Senators to support the filibuster against the nomination of Alabama Attorney General William H. Pryor, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th circuit in Atlanta, and to oppose this nomination if it gets to the floor.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, in a straight party line vote, favorably reported the nomination of William Pryor, Jr. to the floor of the full Senate. The first vote to end debate on the nomination will probably occur early next week.

Action Needed:

Call, fax or e-mail your Senators immediately - to tell them that you want them to stand up to stop the parade of right wing ideologues nominated to the federal courts and that you expect them to support the filibuster against the nomination of William Pryor, Jr. to the US Court of Appeals to the 11th circuit. If you don't already know why Pryor is a poor choice to serve on the second highest court in the land, read the background below.

Take action and please pass this on to your colleagues as well.

Background:

Continuing his pattern of court stacking, President Bush nominated Alabama Attorney General William H. Pryor to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th circuit. Pryor's record is particularly heinous on women's rights. His view on Roe v. Wade is that on the day of the decision "seven members of our highest court ripped the Constitution and ripped out the life of millions of unborn children." He filed an amicus brief in Lawrence v. Texas to uphold sodomy laws, arguing that if a constitutional right protects "the choice of ones's partner . . . (then it) must logically extend to activities like prostitution, adultery, necrophilia, bestiality, possession of child pornography, and even incest and pedophilia."

He has argued against the Violence Against Women's Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Voting Rights Act. He has used his political office as Attorney General of Alabama to advance his partisan and ideological right-wing views.
