NOW Press Office Rebecca Farmer Ph. 202.628.8669, ext. 116 NOW Activists to Protest Outside Reagan Building As Bush Signs the So-called Partial Birth Abortion Ban November 4, 2003 "As George W. Bush signs the deceptively-named Partial Birth Abortion Ban into law, women's rights activists across the country will be recommitting ourselves to keeping abortion safe, legal and accessible," said National Organization for Women (NOW) President Kim Gandy. "Here in Washington, NOW will be protesting outside the site where the bill is signed. We won't stand by silently as this Administration attempts to erode our rights." This will be the first national restriction on abortion since the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade in 1973 that women have a constitutional right to abortion. Who: NOW President Kim Gandy and other abortion right supporters What: Protest of Bush signing the deceptively-named Partial Birth Abortion Ban When: Wednesday, November 5, 1:15 PM Where: Ronald Reagan Building 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW (Corner of 14th St. and Pennsylvania Ave) Washington, D.C. "The so-called Partial-Birth Abortion Ban is a dangerous piece of legislation that ultimately seeks to outlaw even the safest and most common abortion procedures," Gandy said. "The truth is that the term 'partial birth abortion' doesn't exist in the medical worldit's a fabrication of the anti-choice machine. The law won't even contain an exception to preserve a woman's health and future fertility." ###
