Join Kim Gandy at FCC Hearing on Media
Did you know that women own a meager six percent of full-power radio stations and five percent of all TV stations in the U.S.?
On Oct. 31, NOW President Kim Gandy will testify at a FCC hearing in Washington, D.C., on media ownership and the responsibility of TV and radio broadcasters to serve their local communities.
The hearings are open to the public, and we encourage everyone who cares about the current state of media in this country to attend. Prior to the hearing, allied organization Free Press will hold a rally outside FCC headquarters. Help us build a crowd that will send a strong message to the FCC and the media covering the event.

As the FCC has allowed big conglomerates to buy up more and more media outlets, this consolidation has affected the content we see, hear and read. Women's voices, perspectives and issues are marginalized and sometimes ignored entirely.
FCC Chair Kevin Martin is determined to further relax regulations on media ownership, creating even greater consolidation. These rule changes could happen before the year is over! Attend the rally and/or the hearing to show your commitment to media that represent all the people.
If you're feeling particularly fired up, and want to testify yourself during the 12 noon-2:00pm public comment period, we suggest that you arrive at FCC headquarters between 4:00am and 6:00am in order to get a good place in line.
