NOW DC Zaps

WHO:

National Organization for Women, Rainbow Push Coalition, NAACP and other organizations.

WHAT:

March to Supreme Court and rally during oral arguments in Kentucky and Washington school segregation cases. Join us to support diversity in the public schools and support the anti-segregation principles of Brown v. Board of Education.

WHEN:

Monday, Dec. 4, 2006

WHERE:

There are two options to participate in this event.

For the early risers, we will be marching with students from several colleges, beginning at Howard University, 2400 Sixth Street, NW, Washington, D.C., gathering at 6:00 a.m. to march to the U.S. Supreme Court, One First Street, N.E. Washington, D.C., across from the U.S. Capitol. It will be approximately 2 miles, wear comfortable attire. See march route at the end of this message.

For people who want to be involved later, meet us at the Supreme Court at 8:30 a.m. There will be a 9 a.m. press conference an rally with Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., Kim Gandy, Bruce Gordon, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Rev. Al Sharpton, and many others in front of the U.S. Supreme Court during the oral arguments.

Directions to the Supreme Court: On First St. NE, Three blocks north of Capitol South Metro Station or four blocks south of Union Station. Across from the U.S. Capitol.

MARCH ROUTE FROM HOWARD UNIVERSITY TO THE SUPREME COURT BUILDING:

  • From Main Campus travel south on 6th Street to W Street
  • Turn left on W Street
  • Travel East on W Street to 5th Street
  • Turn right on 5th Street
  • Travel South on 5th Street to Florida Avenue
  • Turn left onto Florida Avenue
  • Travel East on Florida Avenue to North Capitol Street
  • Travel south on North Capitol
  • Turn Right
  • Travel Southwest on Louisiana Ave. NW
  • Turn Left
  • Travel Southeast on New Jersey Ave. NW
  • Turn Left
  • Travel East on Constitution Ave. NW/NE
  • Turn Right
  • Travel south on First St. NE, to U.S. Supreme Court.
