LOBBY FOR LOVE
Oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment
Don't let ultra right wing conservatives write discrimination into our constitution!!!
Did you know that the Federal Marriage Amendment (S.J.
Res. 1), also mis-named the Marriage Protection Act, would be the first
Amendment to put discrimination into our Constitution? On June 5, 2006, Senate
Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn) plans to bring this anti-equality amendment
to the floor of the U.S. Senate for a vote.
We cannot and will not let this happen.

A Federal Marriage Amendment flies in the face of our nation's commitment to diversity, tolerance and justice. Amending the Constitution of the United States to specifically limit marriage to a man and a woman will undermine marriages and civil unions in many cities and states and will only serve to deepen and perpetuate discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons and their families. It also establishes a very unsettling precedent for all of the civil rights issues we care so deeply about.
Students and young people must speak out for equality and our futures.
Join with us on May 23, 2006 as NOW and other progressive organizations coordinate a young people's lobby day against this horrific amendment. The day will start with a briefing about the issue and on "how to" lobby, and end with a late afternoon reception where we share lobbying experiences and get to know each other.
