President to Speak at We Are Family Unity Rally Oct. 15

October 14, 2005

NOW President Kim Gandy will join allies in the fight for equality in speaking at the We Are Family Unity Rally on Saturday, Oct. 15. As a longtime advocate for both racial justice and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, NOW is coming together with the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) to stand against homophobia and to promote unity in the struggle for justice.

Also taking place on Saturday is the Millions More Movement March, a commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March, to which NOW objected in 1995 because of the exclusion of women. This time, the Millions More March included women but excluded people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The strong stance taken by NOW, NBJC and other groups resulted in the Millions More organizers inviting a gay speaker to address the attendees on these issues.

Who: Kim Gandy, NOW President, and feminist activists join the National Black Justice Coalition and the D.C. Coalition of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders
What: We Are Family Unity Rally
When: Saturday, Oct. 15
8:00am - 12:00noon; Gandy is scheduled to speak at 11:00am.
Where: Freedom Plaza (Penn. Ave & 14th St. NW)
