Two Opportunities to Get Involved with NOW and Women's Rights
1.
We Won't Go Back - Roe v. Wade Rally (flyer)
Sat, 1/22, 500pm
Supreme Court
First St. NE between Maryland and East Capitol
|
In April, 2004 we marched on Washington, D.C., and made history. Over one million activists pledged their commitment to reproductive justice and millions more did so from home. With Bush back in office, Supreme Court seats at risk, and both the House and Senate under right-wing control, our freedoms are threatened and now more than ever we need to fight George W. Bush and his cronies! Come tell the courts and this administration "We Won't Go Back!"
For those who can't make it to the Supreme Court, we encourage you to organize, mobilize and demonstrate in your own communities. Write to your local newspaper editors, call your favorite radio show, write to your legislators, and let freedom ring around the country. On Jan. 22 all across this nation we will stand together for reproductive justice!
2.

Join the AFL-CIO and NOW for a roundtable with organizers from India, South Africa, Thailand and the U.S. The speakers will share their innovative strategies for organizing women working in informal and nonstandard work.
In India, the 700,000 member Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) of India organizes incense rollers, street vendors, rag pickers and salt producers in a movement that has created a network of services to support the needs of informal workers. In South Africa, the Self-Employed Women's Union (SEWU) organizes and negotiates contracts for street vendors and the Women's Farm Project organizes rural women workers. HomeNet Thailand organizes homebased workers and works with similar organizations throughout the world. Together, these groups are organizing women workers to protect their rights in the workplace and the global economy. Read the bios of the guest speakers.
