Pathways and Roadblocks for Women Seeking High Political Offices in the United States WHO: NOW President Kim Gandy WHAT: Keynote speech, "Is America Ready for a Woman President?" co-sponsored by Women's Law Association & Washington College of Law Speakers Bureau WHERE: American University Washington College of Law, 4801 Massachusetts Avenue, Room 603, Washington D.C. WHEN: Tuesday, February 24, 12 noon - 1 p.m. Kim Gandy, president of NOW and a graduate of Loyola University School of Law, will discuss women's ability to access high political office. Why has there never been a woman president? Why are there so few women members of Congress? Why are there so few women on the Cabinet? And, how would a woman in the White House affect many women's issues including reproductive rights, pay equity, violence against women, LGBT rights, and welfare legislation? Ms. Gandy will also be discussing NOW's support for Carol Moseley Braun, the only woman on the Democratic primary ticket this year. American University is located on Ward Circle, at the intersection of Massachusetts and Nebraska Avenues, NW, in Washington, DC. Parking is available in the law school's underground lot at the rate of $2/hour or $8/day, although on-street metered and non-metered parking is available on Yuma Street, 49th Street, and 50th Street.
