Join the Fight to Delay FDA Approval of Silicone Breast Implants On Oct. 8, 2003, NOW, the Feminist Majority Foundation, In the Know and Breast Cancer Action will rally women from across the country in Washington, D.C. to send a powerful message to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to delay approval of silicone breast implants. For decades, silicone breast implants have been available to women despite never having been approved. In that time, women have experienced severe complications including rupture, local infections, connective tissue disorders including rheumatoid arthritis and other serious health problems. The government's own research indicates that women with silicone breast implants have two times the risk of brain cancer, three times the risk of lung cancer and four times the risk of suicide. The FDA is now poised to give its seal of approval based only on limited clinical data to demonstrate the safety of these devices. Join Us and Say "No" to the FDA WHAT: Rally to Delay FDA Approval of Silicone Breast Implants WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 8, 8 a.m. WHERE: In front of The Department of Health and Human Services, 200 Independence Avenue SW, Washington, D.C. NOW President Kim Gandy will join other organizational leaders and activists at a 10 a.m. press conference to protest the pending FDA action.
