The National Organization for Women has expressed its opposition to the war on Iraq through statements and resolutions adopted by its membership and National Board during the last six months. NOW has also encouraged activists and members nationwide to participate in peaceful protests against the planned war of aggression on Iraq in every region of NOW. Many chapters have already engaged in actions against the war on their own and/or with other local groups and many more are planning to do so in the near future. Here in Washington, NOW has joined the United for Peace Vigil at the White House, started on November 17th and running through March 8th, 2003. This is an on-going protest against the war, a permanent presence in Lafayette Park of women's voices, drawing attention to the real costs of war - the loss of human life, the devastation of the environment and the proliferation of violence. Join us on Saturday, December 7th or Sunday, December 8th anytime between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm in Lafayette Park for the NOW Vigil Days in December. We will be joined by activists from other groups and organizations and together, we will raise our voices in protest through this peaceful demonstration a few steps away from the Oval Office. You can give this effort as much time as you can afford - 20 minutes, one hour, two or the whole day!! Please call us at (202) 628-8669 Ext 144 or e-mail us at fieldorg@now.org and let us know when you will be able to join us on either of those days and at what time. We want to make sure we have the times covered etween 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. For more information, please log on to www.unitedforpeace.org, "Events: On-Going Peace Vigil at the White House" or call us at 202-628-8669, Ext 144.
