Join us on Thursday, November 21st, at a United Food and Commercial Workers Union RALLY to protest Wal-Mart's appalling employment practices and unfriendly workplace environment. Olga Vives will speak about Wal-Mart's poor record and why the National Organization for Women has named it a Merchant of Shame. Please plan to come and show your support! Where: 5800 Kingstowne Boulevard, Alexandria, VA 22315 When: 4:00 p.m. The National Organization for Women has examined the extensive public record on cases filed against Wal-Mart and found disturbing trends. These trends include allegations of sex discrimination in pay, promotion, and compensation, wage abuse, excluding contraceptive coverage in insurance plans, violations of child labor laws and the Americans with Disabilities Act, and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. In addition, cases have been filed charging that Wal-Mart fired pro-union workers, eliminated jobs once workers joined unions, and discouraged workers from unionizing. NOW has declared Wal-Mart a Merchant of Shame. Join NOW in its campaign to demand changes in Wal-Mart's unfair practices. Directions: By Car: Take I-395 South and exit at VA-236, Duke St. (#3A). Turn right on ramp to South Van Dorn St. Continue on South Van Dorn St., and turn right on Kingstowne Blvd. By Metro: The closest Metro stop to this Wal-Mart is Franconia-Springfield on the Blue line. However, the Wal-Mart is not within walking distance of the Metro; one would have to take a cab there.
