age, gender, origin harrasment and discrimination

Hi there!
I worked for a big Corp who owns very well known Restaurants
all over California, NY, and other States. I am what is considered to be an "older woman" and I have encountered many vicissitudes at the hands of my immediate supervisor,
who happens to be the general manager, me being the second in command.
The dispairity in income was incredible to the point of
less educated males, who incidentally could not even speak
English let along spell it, nor had ANY experience in
Restaurant Management , nor Management of any kind.
Needless to say, I worked mostly nights, 10-16 hour day, was attacked by my boss with a pen thrown at my face in
bared teeth anger. The other managers under me, with less
responsibility were never humilliated in front of the employees as I was, In other words I was given all the
work, actually worked to death, sometimes working 12 hours
for ten days straight, while all the other managers worked
6 to 8 hours per day if not less, for much more money.
I guess it all comes back to being in the "boys club" or
screwing one of the "boys club participants".
After trying to follow Co. Policies and enforce them, I would be retaliated for it. For example: reporting sexual harrassment, one employee actually bared his privates at
the coktail lounge, or accosted women employees in the walk-
in. Parts of the women's body talked about in a demaning, caustic manner. I personally was told that I was too old to remember what it was like to have a baby, that there was
no reason why I shouldn't work "every weekend of the year" because "I had no life", asked several times if I was on
the "rag", or if I had "gotten some the previous night" and
the list goes on.The General Manager would knowingly hire
people without a right to work in the USA, if found out, they would tell this undocumented people to get othe false
documents and come back, and the circle would continue.
Employees coming to work completely intoxicated, obviously
drugged, also was completely overlooked.
The fact that I tried time and again to resolve this issues
as dictated by Company Policy, placed me in a very
unpleasant situation, where I had to meet with the CEO and
Vice President of HR who wanted me to tell all that was
going on, it was like a snake pit waiting to bite me.
The results were my being transferred and my boss was dismissed. It did not stop there...coming to find out
that sexual harrassment, harrasment, lack of appropriate
manpower, discrimination..gender, religious, race, non
compliance of Company Policy and all rules
was and still is a commonplace exercised at all the restaurants owned by this Co.
After my transfer, I had a bad fall, I tried going back to work, only to encounter more harrasment, the Company had
already transferred me once again to another location which
required me to drive one hour+ to get to the location, not
to mention all doctors limitations and orders were totally ignored, I was forced to quit when I was "cornered" for not
bringing a keg full of beer to the cocktail lounge, when
I was under doctor's orders not to lift anymore than 5
pounds, and made to work yet again longer hours than anyone
else and the list goes on.
It has been almost two years since my accident at work, 2 years I have spent mostly in bed and I am still not released
by the doctor. I had an interbody fusion on 3 levels and 4
translameter screws to hold my spine together while the bone
transplant from my hip develops a cushion between my
vertebreas.
The attorney I spoke to initially, asked me about my
employment conditions and HE suggested civil action against this CO., only to take advantage that I was completely incapacitated after Spine Surgery, and informed me he would not take the civil case, after the statute of limitations
had expired. The attorney even wrote me a letter to this
fact, having proof of his negligence in hand.
I was recently contacted by a lady employee of this CO., she wants me to testify in her behalf on a sexual harrasment
discrimination suit. When I spoke to her attorneys, they
assured me I had a case against my attorney for negligence, and tried to acquire as much information from me as possible, I was reluctant, so I only said bits and pieces.
Now her attorneys have even tried to bribe me, as well as this lady has offered me money to testify in her behalf, which I consider totally unethical, not to mention illegal.
Sure, I want justice, but, when the attorney tells me, "it
will probably be settled out of court", and "it will not matter because they will keep on with their unethical
business practices". So, no justice? Just money?
It is nothing new that is a man's world, I just wonder
what would happen to this great country if ALL women were
to protest, nationwide, and stop working until women are remunerated equally, treated equally, promoted equally?
I am willing to bet that the country would cease to produce
and all the Corporations that run this country would have to come to their knees. It is doubtful that this would
ever happen in my life time. Just consider that we women
are the working backbone of this country, without us I doubt
many men could operate as they do today. Any comments?
