BELL ATLANTIC (NYNEX/NY. TELEPHONE CO) SHOULD BE ON YOUR
SHAME LIST. FOR YEARS WOMEN IN OPERATOR SERVICES AND THE
REPRESENTATIVE DEPARTMENTS, ARE TREATED BADLY. MANY WOMEN
ARE THE SOLE SUPPORT OF THEIR FAMILIES AND HAVE EMERGENCIES
THAT MAY MAKE THEM LATE IN GETTING TO WORK. OFTEN THEY
WOULD OFFER TO MAKE UP THE TIME LATER IN THE DAY OR WORK THEIR
LUNCH BUT THE COMPANY AND IN MANY CASES THE UNION C W A
1105 DID NOT PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THESE WOMEN.INSTEAD IN
MANY CASES THE WOMEN WERE WARNED AND AFTER A FEW TIMES LATE,
FIRED. THIS WAS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE WITH MANY OF THE MALE
WORKERS, IN THE REPRESENTATIVE AND OPERATOR SERVICES DEPTS.
WITH THE MALE WORKERS C W A 1105 AND BELL ATLANTIC(NYNEX/NY
TELEPHONE) WOULD PLACE THE MALE WORKERS IN THE PLANT DEPT.
AT A HIGHER RATE OF PAY AND LESS SUPERVISION ON LATENESS AND
ABSENCE. OUR UNION STEWARDS AND THE UNION BUSINESS AGENTS
ARE MOSTLY MEN AND THEY RUN IT LIKE A MALES CLUB AND BELL
ATLANTIC (NYNEX/NY TELEPHONE) ALSO RUN BY MEN THINK THAT
IT IS OK TO FIRE THE WOMAN WORKERS AND FIND ANOTHER JOB
FOR THE MALE WORKERS (AS THEY ARE THE BREAD-WINNERS??)....
I SEE THE SAME PROBLEM NOW THAT I AM IN THE PLANT DEPT. OF
BELL ATLANTIC, MANY TOP LEVEL MANAGERS OF BELL ATLANTIC
GIVE THE MALE WORKERS MORE LEEWAY, AND OUR UNION LOCAL
CWA 1101 ALSO FOSTERS THIS TREATMENT OF WOMEN.
