discrimination against females Az.St. Prison employees

The following was my resingnation letter to the Arizona Dept.of corrections.This letter is to inform you that 
I will be resigning ASPC effective May 1, 1999.The reasons are as follows; Many months ago a New Sergeant came to 
dayshift from SMU. At that time we already had three or four
other male officers transferred to our unit on excessive 
use of force issues. These officers were the friens of 
of this sergeant.At this time these officers became regulars on the yard on a daily basis,getting all the 
regular yard positions .If they were not out at shift 
briefing they would be pulled out later by this sergeant.
This went on for many months and a clic ensued.The problem
with this is as follows.In order for these same males to be
running the yard all the time many other experienced officers had to be sitting in control rooms all the time
Also new female officers were not getting trained on the yard according to DOC policy.They were not favored as being
capable .In other words if you were labeled female,old or stupid you were incapable of working the yard...One female 
did work the yard frequently because she was having a relationship with one of the star first sets.I believe
this is called quid-pro-quo/hostile work environment
and sent a message to the female officers that if uou 
were not having sex with someone in the clic you are not 
working the yard.For example a female and a male officer 
came out of the training academy the same day.The male 
officer engratiated himself with the clic and therefore worked the yard many times a week the female on the other
hand sat in control rooms was not trained and labeled 
female,incapable and stupid.When questioned the sergeant 
made statements like,"I take care of my own'',and let it 
be known that he admired officers in his clic the ones known for excessive use of force supposedly frowned upon
by the department. At one point a few months ago I BEGAN
complaining about this to supervisors . I was afraid to 
drop any paperwork in fear of retalliation. I myself have 
almost six years with the department but am female and not 
part of the clic so Ibegan sitting in control rooms too.
I began to experience retalliation as I complained about 
the favortism. They ignored me refused to work with me 
and the last week I was there all of a sudden I WAS ON THE YARD every day and being watched like a hawk by others in the clic.The last day I worked there one male stated ''Were
not working with you,you just better take it girl''.I'm
ashamed of the department for allowing this to go on
