assaulted at work

In 1989, I was a temporary employee at what was then IBM in Lexington, KY. It has since become Lexmark.
My office was tiny -- they were all built for use by one person. A man who worked in the same building but for
a different department came to my office one day when I was very busy. He knocked on the door, and I opened it.
He came in and began to chatter away. I wanted him to leave so I could get my work finished. Figuring that he
would leave if I did, I decided to go to the print room or rest room and then return after he had gone.
When I stood up, he grabbed me, picked me up off the floor and threw me onto my desk. I weighed 115 pounds. He was
a bodybuilder weighing over 200 pounds. He was actually laying on me, and my feet were off the floor. He pawed all over me
and tried to kiss me and I struggled as best I could. He kept saying "I know you want it." I kept saying "no."
Just as suddenly as the attack began, it ended. I thought for sure he was going to rape me right there on the desk, but
suddenly he just stopped, got off me and left. He subsequently returned with -- I swear -- a bag of popcorn and
claimed that he couldn't help himself because I was "so attractive." I was 21, engaged, and temporary. He was 45, engaged,
and a permanent employee of 20 years. I never reported it. I feel guilty about that now because by not reporting it,
he may have remained there and God only knows what may have happened to the next young woman after me.
I hope anyone out there who is attacked at work reports it. I should have. Who knows, this guy might have attacked
someone before me who also didn't report it. Maybe someone before me could have saved me the agony I went through.
Good luck to everybody. --Cheryl Waldrip.
