I have been an RN for 13 yrs. I took a job at a long term care facility several months ago and I love working with the older population. We recently recieived a memo informing us that we were to wear our nursing caps "or else".The memo stated that because men did not wear dresses this did not have anything to do with them yet they said that we looked like "bag ladies and street people" without them. These caps have to be pinned on. The pins pull our hair and cause headaches and they also collect germs from putting them on and off. They also tip forward when we bend down ,pull our hair and sometimes fall in the unclean floor and they tangle in the tubings. This is the first place that I have had to wear a cap since I was in nursing school. The administrator made this a verbal order,it is not in the handbook and it is not written policy. Is there any recourse for us or do we have to either wear the caps or fear losing our jobs? Thank You,Jane WilliamsRN
