I have experienced all the major ups and downs stemmed from a major sexual harassment lawsuit. I was fired while on sick leave due to acute depression caused by my harassment complaint. The company took its sweet time to solve any matters I complained about while working for them. I was terminated while on sick leave. Having gone through the process of filing state complaints and lawsuits, and having been fired, I find myself trying to find a job a couple fo years later. I have worked for three companies already which have received anonymous phone calls from the employer who terminated me. The phone calls came from not the company's management, but the men who harassed me. After receiving these anonymous phone calls which described me as a "money searcher" individual (this due to the lawsuit), my whole background was investigated and all the "dirt" about my lawsuit has come out. All three companies' employees made it very clear they did not want me around. I had to fight another round of hostile environment at the three places. People believe that once one has filed a suit, they are at risk of being sued also. They don't get it. It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of making things right for women in the workplace. People have a very bad attitude towards women like me. I filed a suit, got a settlement that barely covered my legal fees, and now I am trying to get back on track. Most people believe "tons" of money are made when one files a lawsuit. This is not true probably in 99% of the cases. Ono gets black listed. Co-workers at the three places I have worked, behaved in such a manner that made it clear they did not want me there. Two bosses started setting me up to fail campaigns. This means, the assignments were of such nature that one could not do them to satisfaction. Such assignements were not given to people with limited experience in the company like myself.
I hope this information makes it clear for other women that if they try to find work, it's going to be an up-hill battle. We get black-balled, specially if one lives in a small state. The information via the grapevine travels very quickly, one person knows that person who tells the other person, you get the meaning.
