Women Friendly Workplace Campaign Speakout

Gender discrimination

I began working for a local supermarket chain about two and half years ago, while attending college. I started out like most people as a cashier, six months later I found my self woking behind the service counter, and two months after in the cash room counting cashier's drawers.

I continued to work there after I graduated from college because I was not sure if I really wanted to attend school or do something else.

I applied for a management position within the company, and I was told that I would receive the next opening. Well, openings later, I still DO NOT have the position.

I think don't want to give it to me because I am a woman. Most of the positions that woman have in this company are either Bakery Managers or Customer Service Managers, and the position I applied for is thought of as a "male" position.

I thought of suing the company, but I probably would have a hard time proving my case.

I am currently sending out resumes to women friendly companies.
