I went for an interview with E & G Gabriel Inc. in Uniontown PA on Friday.
There was a woman being interviewed ahead of me. She was not over weight.
The owner of the business showed her into the board room spoke to her and later
showed her around the whole new office. He even escorted her to the car.
When it was time for my interview he quickly turned off the lights to the board room.
He told me to follow him and quickly ran into a very small cramped office. He refused
to shake my hand and never even looked at me. He took my resume and quickly
made a negative comment on the school I have been attending. He asked me if I was a
LIBERAL--somehow connecting that with being a good organized secretary. He stated
in a most offensive tone that I would probably have difficulty learning their complex phone
system. It seemed hard for him to grasp the thought that I would be competent enough
to even talk to customers on the phone. He even questioned me about the references I
used. He quickly sent me to another person.
Later a tall thin woman entered to be interviewed for the same position I
had interviewed. She was from my school too. He shook her hand, smiled,
took her into the board room, told her he liked her and offered her the job.
He then gave her the grand
tour of the facility.
