NOW continues the fight for an equal and safe workplace for all employees at Michigan’s largest utility company (the seventh largest in the country). The utility company faces serious allegations of on-going sexual harassment and race, age, and sex discrimination in several of its power plants. Detroit Edison (DTE) was named a “Merchant of Shame” on August 21, 1999.
Detroit Edison hired an independent consultant in 1999 to study diversity
issues. The consultant found evidence and concluded that “discrimination
was endemic” at Detroit Edison.
