Take Action: Senate to Debate Hate Crimes Prevention Act
September 19, 2007
NOW supports the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007 (S. 1105), which would expand existing federal hate crime laws to cover acts of hate violence based on the victim's real or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.
The House has passed its version of the bill and the Senate may well be discussing and voting on S. 1105 in the days ahead. We hope that the entire Senate will support this bi-partisan legislation when it comes before them this fall.
