Want to make sure your daughter and all girls have the opportunities they need to excel at school? The 2007 Handbook for Achieving Gender Equity through Education, Second Edition, is a new guide designed for educators, researchers and activists. It will provide all the information necessary to ensure that public schools in your area are properly implementing Title IX, the federal law that requires equal education opportunities for women and girls in both athletics and academics. The Handbook is the result of a collaboration of over 200 scholars and reviewers and was edited by Dr. Sue Klein, education equity director of the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF). Former NOW president Eleanor Smeal, currently president of FMF and publisher of Ms. Magazine, writes a foreword in the Handbook.
Even though we have achieved a great deal in the 35 years since Title IX was adopted, much more remains to be accomplished as many schools and colleges are woefully out-of-step when it comes to gender equity. Buying a copy for your school or your local library would help educators in your area understand their Title IX gender equity responsibilities.
Details on the Handbook and where you can purchase it are available online from FMF, Or, if you are coming to the NOW Annual Conference July 13-15 in Detroit, Mich., you can purchase the Handbook at a 20 percent discount at the FMF table!
