Checklist for Counter-Protest of June 6, 2009 Pill Kills Event
Expose the Lies: Protect Birth Control
- Identify a clinic in your area that is being targeted by anti-contraception activists:
- Check first with the opposition organizers website to determine if there is a protest in your community.
- Call your local government or police office to see if a permit has been requested. If permits are required, this is one way to determine if there is a protest planned at your clinic. This also is a good time to determine if you need to apply for a permit.
- Call your local clinic or Planned Parenthood to see if they are aware of any planned protests. This also provides an opportunity to let them know you will be holding a counter protest.
- Reach out to any group(s) who provide clinic defense or escort services at your clinic(s) and coordinate to ensure patients arriving at the clinic are assisted during the "Pill Kills" activities.
- Reach out to other local NOW chapters that are within reasonable distance and reproductive justice organizations to see what their organizing efforts are and work together.
- Finalize the logistics of your action. i.e. the who, what, where, when and why
- Request your most updated membership list to notify your chapter members about your action.
- Create a petition to be signed by all attendees of the counter-protest advocating for safe legal birth control to be given to your local elected officials.
