STOP THE WAR NOW - Women Join Voices and Speak Out!
August 16, 2005 We invite you to help organize feminists in your area to march for peace in Washington, D.C. If you can't get to D.C., join with your friends from NOW and other peace activists at events around the country to say "Enough is enough!"
At our recent National NOW Conference, members passed a resolution calling for participation and mobilization in the Sept. 24 peace march in Washington, D.C. Through the resolution, NOW declared that the Bush administration led the country to war under false pretenses and that the administration's actions have spread hatred and distrust of the U.S. across religious, cultural, and national borders worldwide. Militarism and war increases all forms of violence against women and girls and leads to the defunding of basic human needs. A growing number of people in this country are dissatisfied with the failed strategies of the Bush administration's war on Iraq and believe that the President has irresponsibly undermined the security of the United States. You can read the full resolution on our website. The peace mobilization is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005. We encourage all NOW leaders and activists to join in this march in D.C. and to plan events in your community to call for an end to the war and for the restoration of civil society in Iraq. For up-to-the-minute information on march activities in Washington, D.C., and in your state, visit www.unitedforpeace.org. Plans are being finalized for feminist organizations to join and march together. Watch for our joint march ad in the upcoming issue of Ms. Magazine and for march updates on the NOW website. NOW calls on our country's leaders to remember that plans for the future of Iraq must include full equality and representation for women. |
