Success! NOW Helps Lifetime TV Return to DISH Network Lineup
February 8, 2006
After thousands of NOW members sent messages to DISH Network CEO Charlie Ergen, DISH Network and Lifetime Entertainment Services announced an agreement to return Lifetime Television and Lifetime Movie Network to the lineup on the DISH Network. While the details of the multi-year agreement announced on Feb. 1 are unknown, the agreement comes on the heels of much outcry by Lifetime viewers and women's organizations.
When DISH Network's parent company pulled Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network on Dec. 31, 2005, Lifetime rallied its viewers to speak up and demand that DISH Network continue to carry the Lifetime channels. NOW and other women's rights groups signed on to an open letter to the DISH Network that ran as an ad in The New York Times while NOW activists sent more than 3,000 emails to DISH Network CEO Charlie Ergen. As a result of our outcry, Lifetime TV and Lifetime Movie Network, two of the most popular cable channels among women viewers, have been restored to approximately 8 million women DISH Network subscribers.
