David W. McKeague

Nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

  • He is a member of the Federalist Society.

  • He "dismissed a Justice Department request to investigate Michigan prisons under a federal law clearly authorizing such investigations." The Justice Department wished for Michigan to investigate claims that female prisoners were being abused and raped by male guards.*

  • As a district court judge in 1991, McKeague dismissed a case in which a police officer sued the city after learning the police were secretly monitoring him via an electronic pager, which is illegal under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986. His decision was overturned in appeal.**
