NOW Supports the State Children's Health Insurance Program
March 15, 2007
The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), enacted in 1997, has helped to reduce the number of uninsured children in this country by helping families secure health insurance for their children when the parents do not qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private health insurance. SCHIP has been effective at reducing the ranks of uninsured children and NOW urges that the 2008 budget include sufficient funding to continue the success of this program.
Together with our coalition partner, the Leadership Conference On Civil Rights, NOW has signed on to letters sent to the House and Senate supporting this SCHIP program.
