Talking Points for Calls to Congress
CALL:
(202) 224-3121
And ask to speak with your Senator's or Representative's office.
Here are three talking points for your call to Congressional offices:
- I urge you to cosponsor the resolution [House Concurrent Resolution
90 or Senate Concurrent Resolution 16] condemning the murders of hundreds
of young women in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico. Rep. Hilda Solis
(D-Calif) and Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) introduced these resolutions
concurrently both chambers with strong bipartisan support.
- Amnesty International reports that nearly 400 young women have been
murdered since 1993. More than 100 of these women experienced some form
of sexual violence before her death. A Mexican Federal Special Prosecutor
has reviewed almost half of these cases; she has found negligence or
incompetence by state authorities in over 150 cases. No state authority
has yet been held to account for their negligence in this matter.
- The murder of young women in Juarez and Chihuahua cities is important
to the United States because violence against women is unacceptable
anywhere. These cases often have a direct impact in the U.S. because
extended families reside on both sides of the border. In addition, this
violence can affect U.S. visitors to Juarez and Chihuahua.
Would you consider joining Sen. Bingaman/ Rep. Solis as a cosponsor
of the Congressional resolutions on Juarez and Chihuahua?
