JUAREZ
What You or Your Chapter Can Do
- Organize a viewing of the documentary "Señorita
Extraviada" or "Preguntas Sin Respuesta"
Organize a viewing of the documentary "Señorita Extraviada"
or "Preguntas Sin Respuesta" in your community as part of
an educational event. You can purchase a copy of the video through
NOW’s action center. If you wish, we can arrange for a staff
from the Action Center to come to your chapter and co-present with
these powerful documentaries. Contact Zenaida Mendez at the Racial
Diversity Programs 202-628-8669 ext. 143
- Sponsor a speaking tour
Sponsor a visit by the International Jornada for Justice in Juarez:
End the Femicides, End the Exploitation. Activists from Juarez, struggling
against a decade-long string of largely unresolved femicides and injustices
in the maquila sector will travel to the United States. NOW works
in coalition with the Mexico Solidarity Network’s Washington
office and Network Organizer Macrina Cardenas (1247 E St., SE Washington,
D.C. 20003, 202-544-9355). Next tour starts in March 2006.
- Contact your representatives’ offices
Rep. Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) and Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) have
reintroduced resolutions condemning the murders of more than 400 young
women in Juarez. Both resolutions will help raise awareness of the
tragic violence against women in Mexico and encourage the Mexican
authorities to seek justice in these cases. Urge your representative
to become a cosponsor of these resolutions (H.Cons. Res.90/S.Con Res
16).
