Counting Down the Final Hours
November 1, 2004
This is it — a mere 24 hours (or less!) are left in the 2004 campaign. The future of this nation lies in our own hands. On Tuesday, we can prove to the world (and ourselves) that the U.S. is a nation that believes in equality and justice.
We have just a few words of advice and encouragement for these final, crucial hours:
Help those last few undecideds make up their minds. Direct them to NOW's Candidate Comparison, which covers the records of Bush, Kerry and Nader on women's rights and civil rights issues. The choice is clear.
If you've watched the news in the past week, you've heard about voting controversies in Florida, Ohio and other states. Don't let these controversies get you down — get determined instead! If we get out the vote in numbers large enough to ensure a clear victory, we can counteract attempts to disenfranchise and intimidate voters. Call all your friends, family, everyone you know and remind them to vote.
Anyone who needs to locate their local polling place can do so online at either this or this web site. Or, you can call 1-866-OUR-VOTE to use an automated phone system
-
Forget the poll numbers! The methods used by pollsters, plus the huge influx of newly registered voters, have made this year's polls highly unreliable. Even states the media claim are "solidly" red or blue could be swayed by an enthusiastic get-out-the-vote effort. So, send a prepared get-out-the-vote email message to everyone in your address book!
-
If you encounter problems with voting — report it! Ask to speak to a supervisor and assert your voting rights. Many polling places will have monitors and/or attorneys on site to assist voters being denied the right to vote. Or, you can call 1-866-OUR-VOTE (687-8683) to report any voting violations. Download an election protection card at MoveOn.org and offer this information to anyone having a problem voting.
Support NOW's election work. We have organizers getting-out-the-vote in battleground states across the country and they can use your help!
Together we can secure a victory for equality and justice!
