Elect Women for a Change

The "Elect Women for a Change" campaign played a pivotal role in making 1992 "the Year of the Woman." The campaign provides feminist candidates with experienced organizers who train and deploy volunteers to: staff phone banks and knock on doors; distribute leaflets and posters; organize visibility actions and fundraisers; and get people to the polls. And most importantly, this project of the NOW/PAC multiplies our resources by running unique "coordinated campaigns" that are able to assist multiple feminist candidates in a single campaign. Several women candidates -- U.S. Senator Carol Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.), and U.S. Representatives Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) and Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.) -- say it was NOW's backing early on that made the difference in their campaigns.
