Study Proves What We've Known All Along:
Bush Administration Doesn't Care About Ensuring Women's Equal Pay
NOW joins members of Congress in calling for full enforcement of our nation's civil rights laws dealing with equal pay and paycheck fairness.
A recent study by the General Accounting Office (GAO), requested by Senators Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Representative Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), confirms our suspicion that federal agencies charged with enforcing laws against gender pay discrimination are not doing their jobs.
The GAO study, "Federal Agencies Should Better Monitor Their Performance in Enforcing Anti-Discrimination Laws," (PDF) documents the failures of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliances (OFCCP) to forcefully monitor enforcement of the laws guaranteeing equal pay and preventing gender-based wage discrimination.
