Bush Plans to Sign Abortion Procedures Ban, So Plan to March on Washington!

October 29, 2003

Now that the Senate has passed the abortion procedures ban, it is on the desk of President Bush, who is expected to sign it into law within the next ten days. Stay tuned—we'll keep you updated on the ban and all other legislation that attempts to restrict abortion rights. The impending enactment of this damaging ban into law is one of the many reasons why it's so important that we stand up together in Washington on April 25, 2004 in a public demonstration of historic size in support of abortion rights and reproductive freedom for all women. To connect with NOW activists and others who are organizing for the March in your community, go to www.marchforchoice.meetup.com.

Correction for activists in Massachusetts, Delaware and Texas: Due to an administrative error, our legislative database last week temporarily reflected the record of the Senate's March 13, 2003, vote on the so-called Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act rather than the record of the Oct. 21, 2003, vote on the ban's passage. As a result, the database briefly indicated, incorrectly, that Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) abstained from last week's vote, when in fact he voted against the ban; that Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) abstained from last week's vote, when in fact he voted for the ban; and that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) voted for the ban, when in fact she abstained from voting on Oct. 21. We sincerely apologize for the error, which was immediately corrected.

We are grateful that Sen. Kerry cast a vote against this damaging piece of legislation and that Sen. Hutchison abstained from casting a vote in support of it, but we were sorry to see that Sen. Biden voted for the ban. Please use this link to tell them how you feel about their positions on the ban.

If you didn't write to your Senators last week about their vote on the abortion procedures ban, it's not too late. Use this link to either thank your senator for voting against the so-called "Partial Birth" Abortion Ban (S.3), or express your disappointment with your senator's support of this deceptive bill.
