ACTION ALERT
CHILD CARE FUNDING AMENDMENT TO BE OFFERED
March 22, 1999
The Issue:
We need a very strong show of support for more federal assistance to child
care. Sometime this week (maybe as early as Tuesday, March 23rd or as late
as Friday, March 26th), the Senate will consider the fiscal year 2000 Budget
Resolution. Sen. Chris Dodd,
a tireless champion for child care programs, will offer an amendment to
authorize additional spending on child care services.
The United States lags far behind all other industrialized democracies
in the amount of governmental assistance that is allocated to child care.
We must change this situation; let your Senator know that child care should
be a top national spending priority. If the amendment is accepted, this
will facilitate authorization of increased amounts when the various parts
of the federal budget move forward in the coming months.
What you can do:
Please call, e-mail or fax your member of the Senate as soon as you get
this message. Urge them to vote “yes” on the Dodd child care amendment
to the Budget Resolution. The main number for Congress is (202)-224-3121;
just ask the operator to put your in touch with your Senators.
Both Republican and Democratic Senators need to be called. If your members
are supportive, call them anyway. You can get fax numbers and e-mail addresses
from the website for Congress at http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/
